Charlie Cresswell has taken to Instagram to express his delight at finally being back out on the pitch and playing for Leeds United’s under-23 side.

Cresswell captained the Under-23s as they managed to secure a convincing 3-0 victory at Elland Road, so having not played any competitive football since December, a clean sheet on his return will no doubt have pleased the centre-back.

Will Leeds be relegated this season?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The 19-year-old defender had featured five times under Marcelo Bielsa this season before he was struck down by injury, much like many other players this season. However, it appears that he’s well on track to get back in first-team reckoning soon.

It was a simple but quite effective message by Cresswell, who posted a picture of himself with the captain’s armband on with the caption: ‘Great to be back doing what I love.’

TIF Thoughts on Charlie Cresswell at Leeds United…

While Cresswell is clearly trusted by Bielsa – he would not have started him in the Carabao Cup and Premier League this season if not – his return from injury comes at a difficult time, with Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk both fit, while Liam Cooper is back in training and closing in on a return.

However, with Cresswell having missed so much football this season, the defender will likely just be happy to get any kind of minutes under his belt, whether that be for the first team or Under-23s, to get him back up to speed.
