Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed Aston Villa will face a challenge to keep hold of Matty Cash in the summer transfer window, with interest coming from Spain.

Speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast, Romano believes Atletico Madrid are showing an interest in potentially acquiring the Polish defender.

Would you accept £40m for Cash?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This comes after the La Liga champions saw their right-back, Kieran Trippier, depart the Spanish capital in the January window for a move to Newcastle United.

Atleti were linked with a potential swoop for Cash last month, with Diego Simeone’s side willing to spend up to £40m on the right-back.

However, with Cash still playing his football at Villa Park, Romano had the following to say on Atletico’s plans to reignite their interest in the summer:

“They’re working for Matty Cash, he’s a priority they have for summer window. They wanted him from Aston Villa in January, but it was almost impossible to sign Matty Cash in January.

“Now he’s one of the names they have on the list. They had also Diogo Dalot, but for Matty Cash, they’re already having contacts now to prepare this deal for the summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Cash’s future…

Cash has played the large majority of Premier League action for Villa this season, having started in all of their 21 league games (via Transfermarkt).

However, if Atletico Madrid were to come in for the right-back in the summer, we would be interested to see where his stance would lie on a potential move to the Champions League-chasing side.

And from Villa’s perspective, if the claims of Simeone’s side willing to spend up to £40m on Cash are true, we think this could offer Steven Gerrard a great chance to reinvest in that position.

If Cash was to leave, it would leave a big hole in the Villa side, but we feel a bid in the region of £40m would certainly provide the club with the funds to find a suitable replacement.
