Joseph Masi has been speaking on the Express and Star’s YouTube channel about the potential new structure at West Bromwich Albion amid Valerien Ismael’s sacking and recent backroom changes.

The Baggies are currently undergoing a huge overhaul at the club with Ismael having been dismissed on Wednesday due to poor results, performances and a reported falling-out with Sam Johnstone, which Masi reported on.

Is Bruce the right man for West Brom?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

If sacking a manager was not enough news and madness for one day, there was a reshuffle at boardroom level, with former consultant Ron Gourlay now the club’s new CEO, with former occupant of the role, Xu Ke stepping back to take up a much more minor role as a non-executive board member.

Masi has not ruled out this being the only change upstairs at West Brom.

He said: “Interestingly, they’ve never ditched the model, in terms of when Ken made a statement in the summer, they’ve never closed the door on having a technical director, I think it was more a case of perhaps wanting to find the right man, which obviously isn’t easy, so will he go for a technical director?

“I would say it’s the Albion way, I think it’s the right way for the vast majority of clubs. The problem is, you really, really have to get the right technical director. By the very nature of the job, they get more time than the manager, so when you commit to employing that person, then you’ve got to get it right.”

TIF Thoughts on West Brom…

Bringing in a technical director may not be a bad decision for West Brom, especially if they can get someone with the relevant background, as that was what they were clearly missing before – with the likes of Guochuan Lai, Li Piyue and Ke all taking up senior roles within the boardroom despite having next to no footballing experience.

A technical director could be an effective link between any new manager and the boardroom, and could also lead to a club being run a lot smoother and more efficiently, especially when it comes to signings, as that was not the case under Ismael, with the Frenchman wanting Daryl Dike all summer and having to settle for the loan signing of Jordan Hugill.
