ExWHUemployee has revealed that a ‘top source’ has told him that talk of West Ham United signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ‘rubbish’.

With less than a week until the January transfer market slams shut, many football fans across the globe are eagerly looking for any snippet of news that could see their club linked with a key new signing.

With that in mind, West Ham supporters must have been excited recently when the Everton striker was said to be subject to a possible £60m swoop from their club.

However, while talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex explained that he was led to believe that the rumours of a bid are not at all accurate, with David Moyes making no mention of the player’s name during transfer discussions.

Should West Ham break the bank for Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

He said: “I went to the top source yesterday and I said, ‘Dominic Calvert-Lewin, tell me is it true or not? I need to manage fans’ expectations’.

“Because a £60m bid for an England international forward is something to get excited about. I think that’s probably too much for him, in my eyes, but I would be happy if we signed him.

“But I was told: ‘Rubbish, the manager has never mentioned that name before and I don’t think Everton would sell.’”

TIF Thoughts on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and West Ham…

It’s easy to understand why fans would be excited to hear their club could be on the verge of splashing out somewhere in the region of £60m for a new striker.

And Calvert-Lewin could well be worth that kind of money. Still only 24 years of age, he already has goals at international level for the Three Lions. Meanwhile, over the last two seasons, he had averaged about a goal every other game for the Toffees.

A staple of FIFA Ultimate Team in 2012, which Nigerian striker had a disastrous spell at the Hammers?

However, if Ex’s source is accurate, it looks as though this deal may well not be on the cards for the time being.

Perhaps West Ham will look elsewhere for that elusive new striker instead.
