Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has been discussing West Ham United and their plans for the January transfer window.

Having made big strides in 2020/21 and qualifying for Europe, the Hammers have maintained their presence under David Moyes, currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table and looking likely to mount a serious challenge for European football again this season.

With the battle for Europe likely to be a tight one, West Ham may need a few reinforcements if they are to put up a challenge against some of the bigger teams around them as the season goes on.

A staple of FIFA Ultimate Team in 2012, which Nigerian striker had a disastrous spell at the Hammers?

However, it seems as though that might not be the strategy for them this January.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ The Transfer Show, Solhekol revealed what the plans were for the Hammers for the rest of the window, and judging by his comments, it didn’t sound like there was going to be much movement at the London Stadium between now and when the window closes in less than two weeks.

“My understanding of the situation is: David Moyes is being backed. He has been told by the board there is money available, but I think David Moyes is struggling to find better players than the players he has in his squad at the moment.

“But make no mistake, if David Moyes identifies targets and says ‘these are the players I want, the deal’s there to be done’, then he will be backed, because money is there available for him to make signings if he wants to, and if he finds the right players and the right characters who he thinks will improve the squad he has.”

Will West Ham make top four?

This is a strategy that can act as a double-edged sword for West Ham United moving forward.

Whilst it’s understandable that Moyes wouldn’t want to disrupt what he has got at the moment and what has got his side this far for the time being, there are some inherent risks associated with the move, in particular when it comes to squad depth – something that the Hammers are lacking in some areas of the pitch.

And if there is a major injury to someone like Michail Antonio, who West Ham have needed to back up for some time, then it could very well cause their season to become derailed.

So it’s a risky strategy for them to take on, let’s see if it works out for them between now and the end of the season.
