Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur won’t be signing a new centre-back this transfer window while speaking on The Done Deal Show.

Since Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in November last year, they’ve only conceded four goals in the Premier League, with two of them coming in one game against Liverpool – so targeting a centre-back would not appear to be a priority.

Will Spurs make the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Conte appears more fixated on bringing in a right-sided player, which could well be in the form of Adama Traore, who, according to Fabrizio Romano, wants to work under the Italian at Tottenham.

After the manager himself publicly claimed that Eric Dier could become one of the world’s best defenders, the heart of defence appears locked in, especially when Cristian Romero returns from injury.

As such, Jones has revealed that Spurs are not looking to bring in a new centre-back this month.

“In terms of a centre-back, it’s not looking likely. What I was told just before the weekend was that Tottenham, because they can’t narrow in on exactly who they would want right now, it’s not that much of a priority that they want to panic.

“It’s expected that they’ll probably put that off until the summer, now. In that sense, some Tottenham fans would probably be annoyed about that, but it’s probably sensible if they can’t get the right fit.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ defence…

It has been reported that Conte wants to sign Traore and utilise him as a wing-back – a position the Spaniard was previously handed under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves, but if Conte can continue to get a tune out of the likes of Dier and Ben Davies in a three-man defence, there appears to be no need to rush out and potentially pay over the odds for someone in this hectic transfer window.

Romero was brought in with high expectations over the summer, having just been named as the Serie A’s defender of the season, however, due to injuries and international duty issues, he’s only started six league games this season, so when he returns, this already solid backline Conte has masterminded will surely only get stronger without the need for signings.
