Phil Hay has been speaking on The Athletic’s Deadline Day live stream about Leeds United’s potential transfer activity amid talk of Crysencio Summerville leaving Elland Road on loan.

Leeds have been very quiet this transfer window, with no players arriving despite Marcelo Bielsa having to cope with a massive injury crisis this season. And to make matters worse, the club have actually weakened their squad, with Cody Drameh joining Cardiff City earlier this month.

Will Leeds upgrade their squad this month?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The club did lodge two separate bids for Brenden Aaronson, but saw them both rebuffed by RB Salzburg, and heading into the final hours of the window, their lack of incomings doesn’t look to be changing, although the squad could become even thinner, with Crysencio Summerville a target for several clubs.

Hay’s been talking about what might happen with Summerville.

“The one thing that might change on Deadline Day, or the one thing that may influence some last-minute movement, is the future of Crysencio Summerville – the Under-23s winger who’s been on the fringes of Bielsa’s squad all season.

“Summerville has interest in him from Hamburg in Germany, and also from at least one club in Holland, and if he was to go, Leeds would look to recruit in a wide area to fill the gap left by him.”

TIF Thoughts on Summerville…

Summerville has been handed a chance to impress under Bielsa this season, but having yet to start a league game in the Premier League, he may be desperate for first-team action after seeing Drameh getting regular game time out on loan.

The Dutchman will likely have to stick around at Elland Road as time runs out for Leeds to find a potential replacement for him, and given he’s been in and around the first team all season, he’ll know what Bielsa demands and what’s required when stepping onto the pitch, whereas a new signing may take time to get up to speed.
