Dharmesh Sheth has been speaking on Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show about Newcastle United’s pursuit of Jesse Lingard.
Newcastle’s owners are very quickly finding out how difficult any deal can become in the January transfer window no matter how much money you have, with Sevilla now not open to selling Diego Carlos, via Fabrizio Romano.

While it was reported ahead of this transfer window that Newcastle were to be targeting players entering the final few months of their contracts, that appears to be just as difficult, with their pursuit of Jesse Lingard looking to have hit a major stumbling block in the last 24 hours.
Sheth spoke on Monday evening about his concerns over the deal.
“So as it stands, it’s looking increasingly likely that he will remain at Manchester United and then assess all of his options in the summer, where he’ll be a free agent. But don’t rule out a move to Newcastle just yet – but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.”
TIF Thoughts on Lingard…
While some pundits claimed earlier on in the window that players wouldn’t want to move to Newcastle, that doesn’t appear to be the case, with Kieran Trippier already at the club, while Diego Carlos was very eager to make the switch. Now it’s being reported by The Telegraph that Lingard feels let down that he hasn’t been allowed to speak with the Magpies.
Lingard would add a lot of drive going forward and more than just a goal threat, as he boasted the best goal-creating action per 90 minutes total during his short stint on loan at West Ham last season and also ranked third for passes into the 18-yard box with the Hammers, so he would provide both creativity and a willingness to get up the pitch and help out the strikers.
