Newcastle United journalist Liam Kennedy has given his thoughts on Dele Alli and a potential move to the club in the January transfer window.

Newcastle have certainly found themselves linked with a lot of players this January window, which is no surprise given the vast wealth that they have at their disposal, as well as their need to get themselves away from the bottom of the table in the Premier League.

One name that has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park has been that of Alli, with the England midfielder looking for an escape from north London having been somewhat starved of playing time over the past few seasons.

And speaking on a recent edition of NUFC Matters, Kennedy discussed a possible move for the 25-year-old, and seemed to hint that the ball is in Newcastle’s court when it comes to Alli, suggesting that if the club wanted a deal to be done, then it wouldn’t be difficult to complete.

He said: “Dele Alli has been offered, and it’s just whether the football club take that up. It’s been one where it’s an easy deal to do because of the agency that he’s represented by – they have good contacts with Newcastle United. So I think if it’s needed, that one can get done.”

If what Kennedy is saying is right and the onus for getting a deal done is down to Newcastle, then it seems strange that they haven’t pulled the trigger yet over a deal.

Whilst his numbers have slipped in recent years, whether through falling out of favour or as a result of injuries, Alli has proved in the past – most notably in the 2016/17 season – that there is a player there that can be of use to a team that uses him in the right way.

And given Newcastle’s lack of goals this season, with their total of 21 being the fourth-worst in the league, then it’s strange that they haven’t made more of an effort to bring in someone who could have an instant impact on their side.

Let’s see if they decide to do it in the final days of the window, but with less than a week to go, they’ll have to hurry up if they are to do so.
