A number of Newcastle United fans have reacted poorly after seeing their club are close to giving up on trying to sign Jesse Lingard.

For the past few months, it has seemed like the Manchester United man could end up playing for the Magpies, with plenty of talk linking him with a possible move.

However, as the January transfer market draws to a close, it looks as though no deal will be happening this winter. Indeed, as reported by Sky Sports News, Newcastle has ‘all but given up hope’ of signing Lingard due to the loan fee being demanded by the Red Devils.

Will Jesse Lingard end up at Newcastle eventually?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The update was shared on Twitter by NUFC360 and a collection of fans quickly flocked to the post to offer their opinions.

Here’s what these Newcastle fans said

“We’ve been disappointing.”
“Going from bad to worse this window. Deals collapsing left right and centre. It’s a numbers game,to stay in the game you need to spend. To be good at the game you need to spend big.”
“This is ridiculous.”
“Mad that they’re turning down 5m when they’re literally going to get nowt for him in six months.”
“Joke.”
“This window has turned into a farce, has consortium bit off more then they can chew? Every deal dead in the water where do we go from here? Time to go big or go broke surely?”

It’s clear to see how frustrated these Magpies fans are, and with Sky Sports News claiming that a source told them ‘the deal is now dead’, it really doesn’t look as though this move could happen.

Across nine Premier League appearances this season, Lingard has played just 88 minutes. Even so, he has still managed to score twice.

No doubt, his talent is there and Newcastle probably feel as though they’re the club that could unlock it. However, if the latest report is accurate, they won’t have the chance to try any time soon.
