TalkSport journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Newcastle United might take a run at Todd Cantwell in the January transfer window.

Given their vast wealth and number of issues that need fixing, Newcastle are more than likely going to be the headline-makers for a large part of the January transfer window.

Not only do they need to fix the joint-worst defence in the division, but an injury to Callum Wilson has also meant that they have needed to sign a forward, too – with Chris Wood looking as if his move could be completed soon. However, midfield is also an area that could do with improvements.

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

With Joe Willock failing to produce as he did last year, and with no midfielder bagging more than one goal so far this season, firepower from that part of the pitch is something the club should also look to address.

There have been reports linking them with a move for Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey, but according to Crook, who was speaking on the TalkSport GameDay podcast, Norwich City midfielder Cantwell is someone to keep an eye out for with regards to a move to the north-east.

He said: “I’ve got a list here of what we can expect from Newcastle this week.

“Todd Cantwell is someone else that Eddie Howe is a big admirer of.”

Would you take Todd Cantwell?

With 14 goals and 12 assists to his name so far with the Canaries, it’s fair to say that Cantwell could provide some attacking flair to the side at St. James’ Park from the flank, especially if players like Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy aren’t going to start pulling their weight soon.

However, with Norwich City very much in the same relegation battle as Newcastle, sitting just one point behind them in the table, it does seem hard to think that the Canaries would let him go to a relegation rival in the January window.

Of course, it’s not impossible to think that they might sell him on, especially as Norwich’s owners don’t seem to see Premier League survival as all that important based on previous comments. So if Newcastle United throw enough money at them, they might accept.

It’s certainly an interesting one to keep an eye on as we move forward through the window.
