A number of Newcastle United fans have been left exasperated after it was reported that their latest bid for defender Diego Carlos has been rejected.

In recent times, the Magpies have been linked with a move for the Sevilla star, with a deal looking to be a real possibility. However, Goal Espana has now claimed that the latest bid for the centre-back has been turned down.

The same report adds that Sevilla are looking to strengthen their team at the moment rather than weaken it – and so will not be easily tempted into selling. Meanwhile, Carlos himself is not pushing for an exit despite the promise of a considerable wage increase.

Details of the story were later shared on Twitter by NUFC360 and the Newcastle supporters were not happy with the update.

Here’s what these NUFC fans had to say…

“When will our owners learn!!!”

“Prem soon gone.”
“This is just getting ridiculous now.”
“And there it is. Gutted.”
“Season over. Might as well pull the pin and prep for the championship. This is a joke of a window. Richest club in the world and playing around the edges.”
It’s clear to see just how badly these fans want their club to sign Carlos – or any other high-quality defenders, for that matter.

You can understand their frustration. too. After all, despite their newfound wealth, Newcastle are still very much one of the main candidates to be relegated come the end of the season.

As things stand, it certainly looks as though their best bet is to use some of that new money to help bolster the squad for the rest of the season.

It would later emerge via Sky Sports (17:16) that Carlos is expected to hand in a transfer request at Sevilla – so it appears that an agreement between the clubs is what stands between the Brazilian and his arrival on Tyneside.
