Phil Hay has been speaking about whether or not he believes Leeds United will be making any first-team additions this transfer window.

Just as things were potentially beginning to look up for Leeds after they picked up a huge win in their last outing in the Premier League and gave themselves some breathing space ahead of the bottom three, they have been dealt yet another injury blow, this time to Joe Gelhardt.

Will Leeds make signings this January?

Yes!

No!

No!

This injury to yet another striker could potentially force Marcelo Bielsa’s hand in the transfer market, despite the manager claiming any player will only be signed if they are better than what they already have, which could be difficult to find in the January transfer window.

Despite this claim by Bielsa, Hay is confident that there will be new faces at Elland Road at the end of January as he spoke prior to the manager’s latest press conference on The Phil Hay Show.

“It doesn’t feel like anything’s going to move dramatically at the moment, but again, I’d be surprised if we get to the end of the month and they haven’t done anything.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds in the transfer market…

Bielsa’s stance of only bringing in players who improve the starting lineup may have to be compromised for this season as they have a ridiculous number of injuries and having a slightly deeper squad could benefit them in the long term.

However, Hay’s claim almost suggests Leeds do not seem desperate to boost their ranks this month, despite his prediction that there will ultimately be incomings before the window closes.

Given that Leeds have recently seen the 49ers increase their stake in the club, that could potentially increase the amount of money they’re able to invest, even if it was only loan deals to help them get to the end of the season in the Premier League.
