Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel and has discussed the latest on a potential move to Aston Villa for Luis Suarez.

The Atletico Madrid striker has been linked with a possible reunion with former teammate Steven Gerrard this month, however, Romano provided an update on those claims.

Would you like to see Suarez sign in the summer?

Romano believes a move for Suarez this month is unlikely – but it could be a possibility in the summer, with the Uruguayan’s contract down to its final months.

Villa currently have two main men up top in Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, who have been able to provide a combined nine goals in the Premier League this season.

Having previously played with Gerrard during their time at Liverpool, Romano had the following to say on the reports emerging from insider Gerard Romero, which claimed (via TEAMtalk) that Suarez had been in touch with Villa:

“I’m sure that if [Romero] is sharing this news it’s because there is something between Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

“[On the] same point, I’m told from people close to Atletico Madrid that nothing is going to happen in January, the player is going to complete the season with Atletico Madrid and then decide in the summer what he wants to do – if he wants to maybe come back to the Premier League in this case with Aston Villa, he has some possibilities also in MLS.”

TIF Thoughts on Suarez to Villa…

Suarez has made a reasonable start to the 2021/22 campaign, with seven goals and two assists in the 19 La Liga appearances he has made (via Transfermarkt).

The striker will turn 35 next week, which may be slightly off-putting to some, however, it will be interesting to see if Villa put their trust in Gerrard and make a move for Suarez – presuming the manager is leading the interest.

Having won an incredible amount of silverware over his career, it would certainly be an exciting acquisition for Villa even if it was only made with the intention of providing some firepower off the bench when needed.
