Football writer Charles Watts has revealed that while Arsenal ‘like’ striker Jonathan David, he doesn’t look likely to leave this January.

It’s no secret that the Gunners are currently in the market for a new striker. With captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang possibly set for an exit, the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak have all been linked to the club in recent times (via The Athletic).

However, with no certainty over the deals, Mikel Arteta and co may have to look elsewhere. One such player who could be a target is the Lille forward.

Indeed, while speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts explained that the 22-year-old was of interest to the club. Unfortunately, though, if a deal is to happen, it may not take place until the summer.

The journalist explained:  “Jonathan David, we know Arsenal like him. From what I understand, he won’t be leaving in January. He will be leaving in the summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Jonathan David and Arsenal…

With just over a week until the transfer market slams shut, Arsenal may want to get some business does soon. A goalless draw against Burnley in their most recent Premier League outing goes some way to outline the need for a new striker.

However, if Watts’ claim is true, David may not be the man for the Gunners in the immediate future. Still, his striking record certainly does make him an interesting prospect.

This term, he has 16 goals in 30 games in all competitions this season – with that in mind, perhaps it would make sense for Arsenal to bide their time and make a move in the summer when he could be available.
