West Ham United presenter Gonzo has been speaking on the Hammers Chat YouTube channel to discuss the club’s plans ahead of the January transfer window.

The Hammers’ quest for a place in the Champions League spots has taken a slight dent in the past few weeks, with David Moyes’ side recording just one win in their last five league games.

Will West Ham make top four?

However, they are still currently occupying fourth spot in the table, though they could come under threat from Tottenham Hotspur, who sit just three points adrift with two games in hand.

Injuries could potentially be blamed for West Ham’s recent dip in form, with the likes of Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna forced to sit out through respective issues.

However, with the transfer window quickly approaching, Gonzo offered his view after reports emerged suggesting that the east Londoners are set to hold a meeting with Daniel Kretinsky regarding the club’s plans for January.

“It’s the freshening up that needs to be done. I’m sure we’ll do it. Now, what is interesting: they’re having a board meeting, their first board meeting with Kretinsky; they’re going to decide on the strategy for January. They’re going to need to do that quickly because we are losing ground.

“So if we’re going to carry on, if we’re going to press ahead, we don’t want to leave ourselves too much to do when it gets to January to bring these players in.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s transfer plans…

The January window could be huge for the Hammers given the current injury issues they are experiencing in defence as the Premier League schedule ramps up over the festive period.

Along with other competitions to think about, we feel Moyes is walking a tightrope with the depth of his squad in certain areas, which could well put a huge strain on the team if they are to suffer any further injuries.

The main issue for us is their options up top. Michail Antonio’s form has fallen off of a cliff since the early stages of the season, and that could well be down to the lack of options forcing him to play almost every minute of league action (via Transfermarkt).

West Ham have been linked with potential striker targets ahead of January and we feel it is essential for them to add if they intend on going deep into the Europa League and competing for the top four.
