Journalist Adam Clayton has been speaking on the latest episode of The Athletic Football Podcast to discuss the January transfer window at Newcastle United.

It was the best weekend of the season for the Magpies last time out in the Premier League as they sealed their first three points of the campaign to take them a step closer to moving out of the dropzone.

Do you expect big changes in January?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The first win for Eddie Howe on Tyneside was certainly a step in the right direction, but January could be a big month for the 44-year-old as the Toon have the opportunity to add to their side under the new ownership.

However, there have been question marks as to whether the other Premier League sides would be willing to deal with the Magpies following the controversial takeover on Tyneside.

Speaking on the latest rumblings regarding the upcoming transfer window and what the Toon could expect, Clayton had the following to say.

“Agents are talking at the moment of almost this quiet agreement between clubs in the Premier League of not doing business with Newcastle in January. Now, how that actually plays out when Newcastle go to Manchester United with £30m for Anthony Martial or Phil Jones, we will see. But that’s definitely, you know, something that several agents have now been saying to me that there is this reluctance.”

TIF Thoughts on January at Newcastle…

The win on the weekend will be a big boost to all involved on Tyneside, however, only just getting your first win of the season in December should be a big concern and a sign your squad is potentially not good enough to survive this season.

January will offer the Toon a chance to bolster their squad, but perhaps more importantly for Howe to put his stamp on his new side.

With clubs reportedly not willing to deal with Newcastle in the transfer window, we are interested as to whether this will see the new ownership flex their financial muscles and potentially put forward offers that are simply too good to refuse.
