Reporter Ian McGarry has been speaking on The Transfer Window podcast about how much money Newcastle United are willing to offer Jesse Lingard.

Newcastle’s first match under the new ownership saw Lingard’s representatives take in that particular encounter, and that could well have been a sign of things to come, as he’s now being touted with a possible move to Tyneside.

Should Newcastle sign Lingard?

Yes!

No!

No!

With the midfielder having just six months left on his contract with Manchester United and not wanting to sign a new deal, Newcastle have been tipped as a possible and realistic option for Lingard, who could be set to earn a very healthy wage if he decides to drop from the top four into the bottom three.

McGarry has revealed exactly how much Newcastle’s new owners are willing to offer Lingard.

“It is our understanding at The Transfer Window podcast that Lingard, who turns 29 next week, may well get a nice birthday present from Newcastle’s new owners, in that they are willing to compensate him leaving Manchester United and coming to make a hat-trick of Uniteds that he’s played for, given his loan spell at West Ham, and putting him on £200,000 a week to make that move.”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard potentially joining Newcastle…

If Newcastle were able to tempt someone such as Lingard to their squad in January, it could be the difference between them being relegated or not, especially if he had the same impact that he did with West Ham last season, which was to score nine goals and register five assists, including one against the Magpies.

However, being able to tempt someone of Lingard’s quality and reputation to a relegation fight may rely on what calibre of other players they can bring in to see if they have a real chance of staying up.

Meanwhile, if they are to hand Lingard a bumper £200,000-per-week deal and then drop down into the Championship, that could bring about a whole load of financial problems, so there would be plenty of risk and reward on offer for the club as well.
