A collection of Newcastle United fans have reacted well after hearing that Dan Ashworth could be their new director of football.

Indeed, as reported by respected journalist David Ornstein on The Athletic, the Brighton man supposedly ‘ranks highly’ on the list of candidates for the position with the Magpies.

Not only that, but the article went on to claim that they believe Newcastle have been given permission by their Premier League rivals to now hold talks with the 50-year-old Englishman.

Ornstein shared his information on Twitter and it soon had many NUFC supporters excitedly discussing the potential appointment.

Here’s what these Newcastle fans said

“If he brought in Bissouma, Lamptey and Trossard then he’s exactly what we need tbh.”
“Wow this is huge news.”
“Sound appointment with a brilliant reputation!! Building slow and steady is the key and this guy is perfect!”
“This would be a fantastic choice. Transformed the England setup, and nearly got the Man Utd job. Went to Brighton, brought in Potter, and has recruited smartly. The club is run extremely efficiently from top to bottom.”
“Fantastic appointment if this happens.”
Ashworth became the Seagulls’ technical director in 2019, and has worked with both the Football Association and West Bromwich Albion in the past.
In particular, his work with the FA drew plenty of praise, with England manager Gareth Southgate saying: “In terms of the work of a technical director, I don’t think he could have had a bigger impact with the plans he put in place at the FA and the way that the national teams have progressed in the time Dan has been in charge.”
