Leeds United fans have been left frustrated by comments made by Marcelo Bielsa about the upcoming January transfer window.
The Argentinian was dealt a pretty significant blow to his team selection for the next few weeks as it was announced by the club that five first-team players – Rodrigo, Robin Koch, Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and captain Liam Cooper – will all face time on the sidelines with a variety of injuries.
With the January transfer window around the corner and Leeds carrying a small squad that has already been stretched this season as a result of injuries, it is possible that the Whites might look to the market to try and bring in replacements to cover for them.
However, speaking about the issue at his press conference ahead of this weekend’s game (via Phil Hay), Bielsa didn’t seem all that committed to searching for a new player, stating that ‘we all know the difficulty of the winter market’.
This left Leeds fans rather exasperated for a number of reasons, with some furious that Bielsa didn’t want to change from his preference to carry a small squad even when faced with such a big injury crisis:
“So basically, he wants people in, but it all comes down to the lads with the wallets in terms of quality (which can’t be hard if they are all injured/non positional) This puts the nail in the coffin, once again, that it’s Bielsa’s fault if we don’t sign anyone.”
Will Marcelo Bielsa be Leeds manager next season?
Yes
No
If Leeds aren’t going to solve the issue by bringing in new players, it’s going to be interesting to see how Bielsa navigates the next few weeks, including the notorious winter schedule, with what he currently has at his disposal.
