George Caulkin has been speaking about where Newcastle United are looking for transfers in January on the latest Pod on the Tyne episode.
Newcastle are going to be active in the January transfer window, as confirmed by Amanda Staveley, and with just five games left to play until it opens, The Daily Mail has reported that the Magpies have already identified a handful of targets both in England and out on the continent.

It is still unclear how much money Newcastle will look to spend in January as they could go all-out to save their season, but if they’re relegated, there will be a lot of high-earning players on their books in the Championship.
Caulkin affirmed the recent reports as he revealed where the club’s owners are currently looking to target in January.
“In terms of January, they want a bit of value if they can find it. They have been looking at players who are sort of towards the end of contracts and so on and so forth, and they are also looking outside the country, too.”
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s potential transfer business…
The Daily Mail’s report from Craig Hope states that Newcastle hold an interest in players such as Lloyd Kelly, Joe Rodon and Matthias Ginter, while the former two have experience of playing in the Championship, so that could be a sign of potentially planning to stay up, but also covering their backs if they do fail to beat the drop.
With Caulkin claiming that the owners are still going to be looking for value, it suggests the new owners, despite their reported wealth, are not prepared to waste a lot of money on players that may not benefit or help Eddie Howe’s squad, so it is certainly positive for Magpies fans to know their owners are being responsible on the financial side of things.
