Leeds United picked up a point as they hosted Brentford at Elland Road on Sunday with Patrick Bamford coming off the bench to rescue a point for Marcelo Bielsa.

The point moves Leeds six points away from the drop zone after Burnley’s defeat this week, but it’ll feel like an opportunity missed.

And, speaking after the game, Bielsa said: “To have drawn the game the way we did, it changes the flavour of it. But if you look at the game in a general context, we should have won it.

“When Kalvin went on and came back off, it made us lose organisation but it shouldn’t have been this way. In the final 30 mins there were difficulties but with perseverance, we ended up getting a result that was fair on one hand but insufficient if you look at the whole game.”

After hearing what Bielsa had to say following the draw, Leeds fans flocked to Twitter to voice their thoughts.

What the Leeds fans had to say

“We really rely on Kalvin don’t we?” @JamesMot18_

“Phillips goes off injured, Klich comes on, the shape goes and they’re having fun around the front three. Was nice having two midfield players for a few weeks.” @Christhefish86

“It’s not that hard to sign a back-up for Kalvin, Bielsa has had seven transfer windows to do so.” @WilliamHirst9

“We are looking more and more likely to go down!” @IHateYo49822032

“God damn defence killing us again.” @iam1steve

“Wearing thin this fella now, get a grip.” @Scottsi12

“I wish he was joking but he isn’t” @postmann26

It’s clear to see how highly Kalvin Phillips is rated by his fans, backed up by the slump in performance when he was forced off.

The lack of back-up options is leading to criticism of Bielsa who now has to have a think on how he and Leeds will cope without Phillips.

It’s clearly a worry that Bielsa has failed to address the need for a good Phillips back-up in previous transfer windows, an error that could cost them big time if he’s side-lined long term.

All those connected to the club will be praying that it isn’t long term and it was more of a precaution. They could be in serious trouble if the struggles continue without Phillips in the side.
