David Hughes has been speaking on the All Together Now podcast about Everton transfer target Nathan Patterson.

Everton were clearly targeting a new right-back last summer, as they were linked with moves for Denzel Dumfries, Ainsley Maitland-Niles as well as Patterson – with the Toffees seeing bids rejected for the latter two.

Is Mykolenko a good signing for Everton?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Rangers defender Patterson could be the most attractive option given he’s only 20 years old, while he is not a regular or guaranteed starter at Ibrox, and may see the lack of right-back options at Goodison Park and believe there is a very clear pathway into the first team.

Indeed, he has again been strongly linked to the Toffees ahead of the January transfer window following previous reports in the summer.

Hughes is excited by Patterson given the calibre of other teams that are reportedly interested in him.

He said: “On Patterson, I think because there’s a lot of noise from various, what I consider reliable scouting networks, certain clubs, who if they’re showing an interest, you tend to be confident that the player’s the real deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Patterson…

With Everton’s severe lack of spending over the summer, targeting a young right-back who is not being handed the necessary game time – as the club’s captain plays in the same position as him at Rangers – who may want to test himself in the Premier League could be a shrewd piece of business.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

It may be a pretty straightforward deal to get done if Everton are serious about signing Patterson and making him their number-one right-back going forward as he’s started just two league games all season, and at 20 years old, he will surely be looking for some regular first-team action – so it may well be a case of seeing off any competition for his signature.
