A number of Sunderland fans have slammed manager Lee Johnson after seeing him speak to the media following the club’s recent League One match.

During the week, the Black Cats played Shrewsbury Town in a game that ended all square. Despite taking the lead thanks to an Alex Pritchard goal and then seeing opposition man David Davis sent off, Sunderland could not hold onto their advantage and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game, Johnson said the game was ‘disappointing’ and felt like ‘two points dropped’.

Though, he also added: “We can’t disrespect the point, it is a tough place to come.”

His interview was shared by the club’s official Twitter account and it’s safe to say many supporters were not happy with what they heard.

Here’s what these Sunderland fans had to say…

“This is the face and words of a man who has absolutely no clue what is going on. Some of the comments made are ridiculous.”

“Pathetic. Trying to take positives out of a 1-1 draw to a side in 21st who played a full 45 minutes with 10 men.”
“Wow.”
“He’s got to go now for me. Don’t give him another game. If his interviews reflect his approach in the dressing room no wonder players are lacklustre and appear void of enthusiasm. Our squad isn’t great but it’s good enough to be top, and certainly to beat 10 men relegation fodder.”
“Leave! You’ve made it toxic enough. Walk away with some credibility that it just didn’t work, otherwise it’s going to get worse.”
“Sorry but I think it’s time for change. Always backed managers sometimes beyond what is even reasonable but tonight was unacceptable. Offered absolutely nothing to suggest we can get promoted. Lost all optimism and faith in the manager. Plz prove me wrong but can’t really see it.”
“No respect from our players now the supporters have worked you out CHANCER.”
“This interview along is a sackable offence in my eyes.”

It certainly seems as if these fans are not at all content with their manager’s assessment of the game. No doubt, they would have been infuriated to be pegged back by a team with 10 men who also sit in the League One relegation zone.

Sunderland now find themselves only just inside the play-off places, in sixth spot on 32 points. If things do not improve quickly for the Black Cats, their supporters will likely continue to feel the frustration towards Johnson, with some already calling for him to be sacked.
