West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that loanee Conor Coventry is currently ‘frustrated’ at Peterborough United.

With the Hammers absolutely flying as they head into the international break, all seems rosy for David Moyes’ men. But, playing his football in the Championship, 21-year-old Coventry is missing out on the fun.

Indeed, not only is he unable to help with his parent club’s push for the top four, but it also doesn’t seem as if he’s getting much of a look-in at Peterborough.

While speaking on The West Ham Way podcast about fellow Hammers loanee Mipo Odubeko, ExWHUemployee went on to explain that the Coventry is ‘just not fitting in’ at his loan club.

He said: “I think his time at Huddersfield, I’d imagine will be brought to an end in January, because there is an option to call him back.

“I think the same will happen with Conor Coventry, who was sadly an unused sub in their 1-0 defeat to Fulham, and he was also an unused sub in the midweek draw with Huddersfield. It’s becoming a bit of a waste of time for him.

“And as far as I understand, he is actually getting frustrated at Peterborough now. Peterborough, obviously are in a relegation battle. They play a long-ball style of football, I’ve been told.

“Obviously, it doesn’t fit with Coventry, in terms of his ability as well, he’s a player who likes to get on the ball and spray the ball around and so on.

“He’s just not fitting in with their team, I think [Moyes] needs to bring him back in January and either loan him out, or just stick him in with us for the rest of the year, and make a decision on what his future is going to hold after that.

“Because he is a player that I have been hearing good things about – like from the academy staff, from Ireland Under-21s, from other players in the team, they seem to really rate him.”

TIF Thoughts on Conor Coventry and West Ham…

Coventry certainly hasn’t been getting much game time of late. Indeed, he has failed to play in any of his current club’s last three league matches and hasn’t started since mid-October.

Since joining on a season-long loan in late August, he has only actually started three Championship matches from the 12 he’s been available for (via Transfermarkt).

Should Conor Coventry end his loan at Peterborough?

No

No doubt, Coventry would have been hoping to be far more involved than he has been, but with Peterborough on the edge of the relegation zone, perhaps manager Darren Ferguson doesn’t want to risk the youngster.

The deal did at least include a break clause in January, so that may well be looked at if his situation does not change in the coming weeks.
