Southampton writer Steve Grant has claimed that Chelsea loanee Armando Broja is going to be on the bench ‘at best’ for the club’s next game if he can’t train much this week.

Over the summer, the Saints landed the 20-year-old on a season-long loan deal. In recent weeks, Broja had really begun to show his quality on the south coast.

Indeed, having scored the club’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Leeds United, the striker followed that up by netting the following week as well -this time in the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

However, an ankle injury kept him from playing a part in the Saints latest league game, a 1-0 win away at Watford.

While talking about Broja’s chances of being fit for the club’s next league outing, Grant told the Total Saints podcast: “Looking forward to the weekend, obviously [it’s a] Friday night game, which gives Broja less time, basically a day less to recover from his ankle injury.

“Realistically, if he doesn’t train an awful lot this week, then at best, he is going to be on the bench.”

TIF Thoughts on Armando Broja and Southampton…

Fortunately for Southampton, Broja wasn’t missed too much against Watford as the Saints claimed their victory thanks to a single goal by Che Adams.

However, it could be reasoned that they did miss a more clinical touch, as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men squandered a number of key opportunities to put the game to bed.

Still, that win would have done the Southampton team a world of good as they rose all the way up to 14th spot in the Premier League with just their second win of the season.

If Broja can be fit enough to make an impact in their next game at home against Aston Villa, he could well be the difference between the two teams.
