Former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer believes his old side Chelsea and Armando Broja will all be happy with the youngster’s loan move to St Mary’s.

Broja joined Southampton from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal during the summer and has made a great start to life on the south coast.

The 20-year-old had scored four goals in all competitions for Southampton prior to this weekend’s action.

He scored the winner in the Saints’ 1-0 win over Leeds United, helping Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men to claim their first league victory this term.

Ultimately, for Palmer, Broja’s loan move to Southampton is one that benefits all parties involved.

“Absolutely. I mean, he’s a young lad, he’s 20 years of age and like I’ve said, these players need to get out and play,” the ex-Saint told TIF when asked if everyone will be happy with Broja’s loan.

“It’s valuable experience in the development of the young boy’s career, so it’s a good fit for Southampton and a good fit for Chelsea.”

It will be interesting to see what happens with Broja after this campaign. He may struggle to get into Chelsea’s starting XI, with Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner currently Thomas Tuchel’s options for the No.9 position.

But it is hard to imagine the Blues wanting to sell such a promising youngster, so perhaps Southampton could take him on loan again for another season.
