Newcastle United podcaster Steve Wraith has provided some information regarding the infrastructure at the club following a meeting he attended.

One of the big things that the Newcastle United owners wanted to improve on when they bought the club last month was the club’s training facilities.

Indeed, new director Amanda Staveley said during an interview with The Sun: “We have great ambitions – I hope it’s going to be a game-changer for Newcastle United. But if you don’t put the infrastructure around that world-class player and you don’t have a team that can play with him, you’ll get nowhere,” before going on to state that “the training ground is really awful and needs a huge amount of investment”.

Speaking about the issue on the latest edition of NUFC Matters, Wraith revealed that he had recently spoken with people at the club and was able to provide some details about what the plans are, although he was unable to go into anything specific when it came to how long those changes would take:

“I went up to the club yesterday for a meeting with one of the top men in Sodexo, who obviously runs the catering facilities etc. at Newcastle.

“It all sounds very positive, I think, with regards to how things are going to be addressed at the club. There was no timescale, it sounds as if it’s going to be ongoing over the next 12 months, but there’s certainly plans afoot to improve the stadium, to improve the facilities and to improve the corporate areas.”

Do Newcastle United need to leave St James' Park?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Whilst there probably wasn’t going to be any significant movement at this point given that the takeover was only completed less than a month ago, to hear that things aren’t going to be happening imminently could be seen as concerning for Newcastle United.

Although the club might have a promising future as a result of the money that they’ll have to spend, as Staveley points out, they can only go so far with what they have at the moment.

And given that the club will need to go through a complete overhaul over the coming years as they look to match their ambition, if there isn’t enough being done behind the scenes at the club, then it might put some players off coming.

So hopefully there will be something tangible happening in the very near future, otherwise, it might end up hurting them in the long run if they aren’t able to set the foundations for the years ahead.
