Newcastle United fans were left far from impressed with Joe Willock after his performance against Brentford.

The Toon managed a point against Brentford in Eddie Howe’s first game in charge, with an enthralling game finishing 3-3. Despite some improvements, it was all doom and gloom for Newcastle fans.

After an impressive loan spell last season, they signed Joe Willock on a permanent deal for this season. However, the youngster has been underwhelming this campaign, and the fans have let him know. Not holding back on Twitter, this is was they had to say.

What the Newcastle fans said

“Does Joe Willock have a relegation clause?” @nufcfootball

“Joe Willock was the last piece of damage Mike Ashley inflicted #nufc.” @stu1892

“Joe Willock is so poor, man. Anybody with a bit of common sense knew that the goals would dry up. Absolute passenger, it’s like playing with 10 men.” @CharAvs94

“Joe Willock on loan – class. Joe Willock signed – crap.” @Joey_doubleu

“Joe Willock is so far off the pace this season.” @shmuel9018

“Joe Willock looks like he is not on the pitch and also has made so many mistakes so far #willock #NEWBRE.” @dogaanismail

It seems to be a hero to zero narrative for Willock during his time at Newcastle with plenty of criticism for the midfielder after such an impressive loan spell last season.

There’s still time for him to turn his form around at such a young age however, and a new manager in place might help him recapture the form that had him adored last season.

After not being as regular in the team as he was previously, it could be understandable why his performance levels have dropped. Could more game time under Howe help him get back to his best?
