Many Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to wax lyrical over Leeds prodigy Joe Gelhardt as the 19-year-old forward come on as a substitute during Leeds u23′ 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Thorp Arch on Friday evening  

The teenager has been one of the breakthrough starts from the youth set-up at Thorp Arch this season and has looked the part for Marcelo Bielsa’s side when called up the senior outfit, recording one assist in the four matches he has played.

An impressive season so far for the U23s has seen Gelhardt score six goals in seven appearances for Mark Jackson’s side and he is a player Bielsa has clearly been blown away by the talent he sees in the youngster.

Furthermore, Gelhardt returned to action in the U-23 3-1 defeat on Tuesday against the Chelsea U-23 on Friday evening in Premier League 2 Division One action as a half-time substitute for Welsh forward Tyler Roberts.

However despite the disappointing defeat for Jackson’s side, many Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to hail the 19-year-old’s return:

His fine form saw Bielsa hand him his senior debut from the bench against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, before making his Premier League debut against Southampton last month.

Gelhardt was also given a call-up to England’s U20’s as a reward for his fine start to the season and scored a hattrick on his debut in a 6-1 win over Romania.

The Liverpudlian teen, who made his league debut at the end of the 2018-19 campaign for Wigan, undoubtedly has a massive future within the game due to his excellent raw talent and ability to take a player on and is someone Bielsa will be see as  key player for the Yorkshire side for years to come.
