Journalist Conor McGilligan has been speaking on the One Leeds Fan YouTube channel about what transfer target John Swift could bring to Leeds United.

This season has been one of stark contrasts to the last campaign, which saw Leeds score 62 goals, the sixth-highest total in the Premier League, whereas this time around, they’re lingering around the relegation spots having won just two league games in 10 attempts.

It does not appear to be just one thing holding Leeds back, as they’re not scoring a load of goals in games, their two wins have been by a single goal, while they have also only kept one clean sheet all season.

So, instead of all the pressure in the final third being on Raphinha, especially when the goal-shy Jack Harrison and Daniel James aren’t performing, bringing in someone like Swift, who has been linked with the club, could certainly offer them a different dimension through the middle of the pitch where he tends to operate.

McGilligan heaped praise on Swift in his latest YouTube video.

“I think John Swift brings a new level of creativity: 15 appearances, eight goals, six assists this season for Reading; he’s been absolutely on fire.

“I think he could have an almost [Ebere] Eze-type impact to Leeds United in terms of comparability of him coming from the Championship to the Premier League, so I think Leeds would have to do business in January.”

TIF Thoughts on Swift…

The Reading midfielder has been in scintillating form this season as McGilligan mentioned, with eight goals and six assists for a Royals side who have struggled for consistency and are not pushing at the right end of the table.

The 26-year old experienced an injury-plagued campaign last season which saw him miss a huge amount of games, but he has come back stronger and performed like he never missed a beat.

If Leeds are wanting to entice Swift to Elland Road, they may have to act quick as he is out of contract in the summer, so he may be of interest to many clubs – and has also been linked to Premier League rivals Newcastle United amongst others.
