Former Leeds United midfielder David Norris is expecting Liam Cooper to head into the Tottenham game with a confidence boost after his heroics with Scotland during the international break.

The Leeds defender, signed by David Hockaday back in 2014, helped Scotland to reach the World Cup play-offs after helping his nation to wins against both Moldova and Denmark.

Cooper particularly came in for praise for his performance in that 2-0 win against Denmark, with the 30-year-old picking up sevens and eights in different publications’ match ratings.

He will now return to club action when Leeds take on Tottenham this Sunday and Norris is expecting him to head into the game full of confidence following his recent exploits.

“It’s been a bit up and down with Leeds and how it’s gone as a season, how it’s gone for him probably personally,” the ex-Whites player said to TIF.

“To get away international, you know, to play, to do as well as they did, it will definitely, definitely give him a little bit of a boost in confidence. Coming back to Leeds, hopefully that will spark his form at Leeds as well.”

Cooper and Leeds have had their downs this season, with the Yorkshire club failing to win any of their first six Premier League fixtures.

However, they were able to pick up a few decent results just before the international break, including a 2-1 win over Norwich City, so it has not been all doom and gloom for Cooper and co.
