Plenty of Leeds United fans have wholeheartedly agreed with a point made by renowned journalist Phil Hay after their recent Premier League match.
Over the past weekend, Marcelo Bielsa’s men claimed a point late on in a 1-1 draw at Elland Road against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A strike by Hwang Hee-chan had put the away side into the lead, but Leeds managed to fight back after 19-year-old Joe Gelhardt managed to win his side a penalty that was then converted by Rodrigo deep into injury time.
After the game, Hay wrote about the impact made by the home support in an article titled: “From murmurs to deafening noise – Leeds fans step up and sing up when their team needs them most.”
Do you think it was a foul on Joe Gelhardt?
Yes
No
He then shared his thoughts on Twitter saying, “Elland Road took over, fighting for everything.” It seems he wasn’t alone in thinking that, especially when the WACCOE boomed around.
Here’s what the Leeds fans said
“Unbelievable when waccoe kicked in. Got serious goosebumps.”
“Sometimes WACCOE can fizzle out but yesterday it didn’t stop the fans knew this game wasn’t over just yet. You could see the players were thriving on the passion from the fan, Elland Road at its best yesterday, the atmosphere has been fantastic all season.”
It’s clear to see just how palpable that Leeds home support was on the day. Judging from the comments, the volume and energy of the crowd was evident on television as well as, more obviously, in the stadium.
What’s more, it could be viewed as helping the side to gain a crucial league point as they try to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
