Football insider Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel to discuss Newcastle United’s search for a new permanent manager.

Last week it was announced Steve Bruce and the Tyneside club had parted ways following their home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Should NUFC appoint Fonseca?

Yes

No

No

One of the names to be heavily linked with the vacant role at St. James’ Park is the former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca.

Graeme Jones has taken on the role as the interim boss on Tyneside and has been informed he would be in charge for at least the weekend draw against Crystal Palace and the clash against Chelsea.

Discussing the latest news regarding any movement in seeing the new Toon owners reach an agreement for the vacant job on the touchline, Romano had the following to say.

(14:30) “Yes, they’re talking with Paulo Fonseca as we mentioned last week and they were continuing those talks with Fonseca and going on also with optimism around this negotiation because Paulo Fonseca is prepared to accept the proposal from Newcastle.

“But it’s up to Newcastle so they now have really everything set with Fonseca but they need to decide if they want to go with him or if they want to do something different, talking with other managers and to consider other opportunities.”

TIF Thoughts on Fonseca to the Toon…

Tottenham were heavily linked with the Portuguese manager during the summer before they appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their Jose Mourinho replacement.

One of the reported concerns Fabio Paratici had regarding the 48-year-old was believed to be his attacking philosophy which led to the Spurs director of football appointing Espirito Santo.

Looking at Newcastle’s long-term ambitions, an attack-minded manager could be a good option. However, with their current squad, we feel if he was appointed he would have to be cautious in implementing his methods on a side that is still without a win in the league.
