Sunderland fans have been reacting to an image of Arbenit Xhemajli that has appeared on social media.
The 23-year-old defender was signed by the club last summer on a two-year deal, but he was only able to feature once for the senior side – in an EFL Trophy match in September 2020 – before he suffered a knee injury whilst on international duty with Kosovo last October that has meant he’s been unable to play for the club since.
But he is now well and truly on the comeback trail and recently played 45 minutes as the club’s U23 side defeated their Leeds United counterparts 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
A picture of him in action was relayed on social media by journalists Dan Godfrey, Phil Smith and James Copley for fans to react to, and it’s fair to say that his re-emergence left a lot of Sunderland fans very excited indeed:
“It would be great to see him get a load of games in front of the fans. Should get a great reception”
Will Sunderland return to the Championship this season?
Yes
No
Having made it this far in his comeback, the only question now is how long it will be until he is fit enough to finally make his long-awaited return for the first team.
