Plenty of Celtic fans have been left angered as they felt manager Ange Postecoglou was treated with disrespect in a recent press conference.

Following the sad passing of Scottish football legend Walter Smith, the Bhoys’ Australian head coach was asked if he had ever heard of the manager – presumably because he grew up on the other side of the world.

In response to the question, Postecoglou laughed and said while shaking his head: “Yes, yes. Australia, I know. But yeah, [I’m] well aware of Walter Smith, mate.”

Is Ange Postecoglou treated unfairly by the press?

The incident was shared online and many Celtic supporters were clearly bothered by the patronising nature of the question.

Here’s what these Celtic fans said

“Why are they acting like he’s come from outer space? Embarrassing.”

“How patronising do the media have to get?”
“This stuff’s beyond embarrassing!!”
“Bonkers question. Smith was Ferguson’s assistant at Man U.”
“Guys from another country, not another world.”
“Do the Scottish media actually think this guy was out trying to catch crocodile & cook shrimp on the barby? It’s bordering on racism with the disrespect they show this man.”
“Amateur journalism but they know exactly what they are doing…Clowns.”
“This is how low the media will go to to try and make a fool of Ange. Unreal and unforgivable. That journo should be banned from every press conference from now on.”
It’s clear to see these Celtic supporters are not so happy with the treatment their manager has received from the Scottish press.

Interestingly enough, it has been reported by Sky Sports that Postecoglou also believes that some elements of the Scottish media have been ‘condescending’ toward him.
Indeed, after a 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United, the manager hit out at those who he felt were beginning to question him, saying: “You call things early here, don’t you?”
This is of course the first time the manager has taken control of a Scottish club, having arrived off the back of a spell in Japan, and then as Australia head coach before that.
