Ahead of the January transfer window, Tottenham have been linked with Fiorentina and Serbian international striker Dusan Vlahovic as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to strengthen his squad.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Tottenham Hotspur are to now set to battle Newcastle United for the signing of long term transfer target Vlahovic. The centre-forward is seen as one of the best young strikers in Europe, after hitting 21 goals last season in Serie A.

Although Spurs might have successfully kept hold of Harry Kane at the club despite heavy interest from Manchester City this summer, there are growing concerns the striker may have fulfilled his time in north London and might again request to leave when he has two years left on his current deal.

Would Vlahovic be a good signing for Spurs?

The links to the north London club to the £45m-rated Fiorentina striker as a potential future replacement for Kane has subsequently seen Spurs fans take to Twitter.

What did these Spurs fans make of the transfer link?

“No chance we are in for him …way way down the list and won’t even be able to afford him”

@shaunle61197008

“He’s not going to go out of his way to say we want this player. Fiorentina would then know we’re interested and demand a higher fee”

@Rico_Spurs_COYS

“Well we’re not going to be able to outbid Newcastle. And before anyone says ‘Levy’s got no ambition,’ I doubt if any club will be able to outbid them for any player”

@TerryDignan

“Paratici said this week we are not currently looking at him”

@PaulThomas10

“Lol well we’re not getting him then are we”

@brianroberts33

“Just pay the money in January”

@Martindolan101

Vlahovic, though, won’t come cheap, with reports in the summer claiming a Viola wanted around £77m for their man. However, following the recent Saudi-Led takeover from Mike Ashley on Tyneside, this fee would not represent a problem for a Newcastle side reportedly interested in Vlahovic.

Starting with a current Tottenham star. How many PL goals has Harry Kane scored for Spurs?

While his lack of new contract means a smaller fee is more likely, Tottenham and Newcastle will still need to stump up a fee within the region of around £35m to secure Vlahovic’s signature.
