A number of Newcastle United fans online have reacted with delight after hearing that assistant coach Graeme Jones is taking training sessions instead of Steve Bruce.

Great changes look imminent at Newcastle with the club set to embark on an ambitious new regime under the Saudi-led consortium.

It seems one of the first key differences expected to be seen will be the departure of the team’s current boss. According to TalkSport (via Newcastle United writer Charlie Bennett), Jones has been charged with taking the Monday training session, while Bruce is expected to be relieved of his duties as manager soon.

When the story was shared on social media it quickly drew an excited response from many members of the Magpies’ fanbase.

“Lovely start to the week.”
“Happy Monday.”
“Great news”
“Things you love to see.”
“Long overdue. Bruce is probably on his way to Portugal anyway. He should have been fired a long time ago. Give Jones a chance he deserves it, he saved us from relegation last year.”
“Well, it’s about time. Should have happened on day one.”

Despite all the optimism off the pitch, there is still an awful lot to fix when it comes to actually playing the beautiful game.

As things stand, the Magpies sit down in 19th spot in the league, are yet to win a game, and are only two points ahead of Norwich City.

Taking all that into account, it’s clear to see why these fans are so happy to see Bruce edged further away from control.
