Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a tweet from noted journalist Fabrizio Romano surrounding a potential new manager at the club.

Taking to Twitter, Romano claimed that negotiations between the club and Portuguese tactician Paulo Fonseca to take over from the recently departed Steve Bruce appear to be going rather well, claiming:

“Talks will continue today between Paulo Fonseca and Magpies board – the agreement is getting closer on a long-term contract. Not completed yet but negotiations ongoing.

“Fonseca prepared to accept if Newcastle board will give the ‘green light’.”

Fonseca was most recently in charge of Serie A side AS Roma and would come to the club with a degree of pedigree when it comes to winning trophies, having claimed silverware at some of his previous jobs in Portugal with SC Braga and FC Porto, as well as in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, so his history is something that very much matches up with the club’s ambition for the future.

“What an upgrade on Bruce. Fonseca ball will dominate the league.”
