Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his YouTube channel to discuss the next steps for Newcastle United following their takeover.

Mike Ashley’s time on Tyneside came to an end last week, with the Toon announcing the Premier League’s approval of their Saudi Arabian based takeover.

Can NUFC win the league within the next 10 years?

Immediately, the Magpies have been linked with a host of potential transfer targets given the extreme wealth of their new ownership.

It has also been claimed the Toon could have up to £190m to spend on transfers in the coming windows without hitting FFP rules due to Mike Ashley’s previous ‘parsimonious spending’.

With the January transfer window just a matter of months away and the Toon sitting in the mix of a relegation scrap, Romano rubbished fans calls to sign Erling Haaland – but shed some light on what they can expect.

“So it will take time for Newcastle, also because Erling Haaland wants to play Champions League always and Newcastle know about it and they will go, from what I’m told, also [for] young, talented players.

“It doesn’t have to be only top players already completed, but also players for the future. So this is what Newcastle want to do, from what I am told.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s transfer business…

The Magpies’ new owners boast a huge net worth, which even puts Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi-based owners to shame, however, we think the fans must be patient and have realistic expectations.

Although the new owners have money to compete with the European powerhouses financially, the Toon are currently a bottom-two side and we think there are a lot of positions that need to be addressed.

Amanda Staveley has spoken of their long-term ambitions of winning the league, but we believe fans have to be realistic and not expect the mega-money transfers to arrive so soon.
