Following the takeover of Newcastle, Windass believes Saint-Maximin will be delighted, telling This is Futbol: “He will be absolutely delighted that money men have come in. Like every player he wants to play in the Champions League, everybody wants to win trophies. Newcastle haven’t won a trophy for a long, long time and I just think players like that they get bums off seats, you know, that’s what supporters want to do, they want to get bums off seats and he’s the lad who’ll do that.”

Following the takeover, the new owners have decided to head in a different managerial direction as they sacked Steve Bruce earlier this week [The Telegraph], with an Italian sports journalist posting on his Twitter account that Paulo Fonseca to Newcastle as the new manager is in its final stages.

After the departure of Bruce, Saint Maximin posted a heartfelt message on his Twitter account to his former boss, saying: “You are, without a doubt, one of the most gentle people that I have ever met in the world of football. You have been a man of your word, a caring man and a fair man who never hesitated to protect us. I will never forget how you treated me, for that I will be forever grateful.”
