The 19-year-old, Brunt, has featured for the Blades senior side twice this season in the Carabao Cup victories against Carlisle United and Derby County having featured a number of times in the matchday squad last season in the Premier League.

And it has been a similar story for the Polish centre-back, Lopata, who has two senior starts to his name this season with both coming in the cup games against Carlisle and Derby.

Despite not having any appearances in the Championship for the Blades this season, United fans flocked to Twitter to share their concerns over the youngsters being allowed to leave until January.

What did these fans have to say?

“Very low level imo for them but go and smash it all the same lads”

bagged themselves some ballers for a few months”

“Great move for Southend-on-Sea they have just bagged 2 good young players”
“WHAT!? they should be in the fighting for main team spot. Especially lopata as we need solid defenders right now. Very bizarre decision.”
“This makes me sad.”
“Wow Southend have bagged 2 right players there”
“What a strange move .”

The move down south may provide the pair with a chance to play regular first-team football as they join up with their former U23s head coach, Darren Currie, who is currently the assistant head coach at the Shrimpers.

Southend find themselves struggling as they currently sit in the drop zone of the fifth-tier which may provide the United duo with an opportunity to earn themselves a spot in the first-team with Southend in need of an instant impact.
