A whole host of Celtic fans are delighted on Twitter that their club has appointed Anton McElhone as their new Head of Sport Science.
In the last 12 months, Celtic as a club have gotten a few things wrong, which has angered fans and led to protests outside the ground calling for people on the board and former manager Neil Lennon to resign.
One of those things was a trip to Dubai last season that caused chaos with pandemic protocols, as well as overseeing the club go from winning nine league titles in a row to finishing 20 points behind Rangers last campaign.
Is Ange Postecoglou the right man to manage Celtic?
This latest announcement of appointing former Tottenham Hotspur fitness coach McElhone as their new Head of Sports Science appears to have pleased supporters, as it looks to be a step forward in the right direction to improve and better the club.
A lot of Celtic fans are buzzing on Twitter with this latest addition to the club’s backroom staff.
What have these Celtic fans been saying?
“I mean, no idea who he is but mad that in this day and age we’ve not had someone leading the Sports Science department for near 4 months while incorporating a style of play reliant on players being fit, really. A step in the right direction.”
“Remember speaking to him during his spell as interim boss at Morton last season. Seemed like a very positive guy and hopefully that’s something that can be brought into a role like this, too. Good to see us finally filling these positions as well”
“A Head of Sport Science appointed. Progress.”
“Good news, welcome Anton, Bankier out”
“Excellent hope this is the start of the Ange revaluation.”
“A step in the right direction”
McElhone will be taking up the role which has been left vacant ever since Jack Nayler left back in June to join Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. For Celtic to have gone this long without a Head of Sports Science has clearly been a concern for fans.
Given that Celtic have lost three games in the league so far this season, all by a margin of just one goal, fans will be hoping that having someone who can take control of the sports science department is able to find the minute details that could potentially hand them an edge in games such as these.
