Sunderland fans on Twitter have been responding to recently posted footage of Black Cats midfielder Dan Neil during the club’s recent 3-2 win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.

This comes after Sunderland journalist James Copley shared a post on his official Twitter page that contained footage from Sky Sports that showed Neil’s assist for Sunderland’s first goal of the game.

The assist for Aiden O’Brien, who scored all of Sunderland’s goals in the game, saw Neil pick the ball up in midfield and then play a clever pin-point pass to O’Brien who then fired the ball past the Blackpool goalkeeper.

In his post, Copley said that Neil is “doing everything right to start in that midfield role at the moment.”

This post then gathered a number of replies from Sunderland supporters who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on this footage.

So, what did these Sunderland fans have to say in response to this footage of Neil and his assist against Blackpool?

“Sensational. Makes it look effortless”

@davidboyle1985

“Can’t remember us scoring many goals like that last season. Finally a midfielder who passes forwards”

@calpatterson3

“It’s one thing seeing the pass, it’s another executing it.. build a side around him”

@lambo_82

Dear me. That is sublime. Is there any other midfielder at the club that not only has the vision but also the execution to make a pass like this? #safc

@_GraemeAtkinson

Quality pass #safc

@1973mackem

“Absolutely filthy that pass.”

@sniff91

“Unbelievable vision”

@davidallison88

Looking at the replies to this post from Copley, it’s safe to say that these Sunderland fans were blown away by what they saw from Neil against Blackpool, specifically his sublime pass to O’Brien that led to their first goal of the game.

Were you impressed by Dan Neil against Blackpool?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Also, given how Chronicle Live gave the 19-year-old a match rating of 8/10 for his performance against Blackpool, saying that he was “excellent” in midfield, this shows that this group of responding Sunderland fans were not the only ones impressed by his display and assist.

Moving forward, if Neil can continue putting in impressive performances for the Black Cats while managing to keep providing assists, then he could well go on to be one of Sunderland’s standout players of the season, in our view.
