Former Sheffield Wednesday player Carlton Palmer is very optimistic that the Owls can get promoted back to the Championship this season.

After relegation from the Championship last season, Sheffield Wednesday have had to regroup and rebuild this summer, with no fewer than 13 new players joining the club.

The Owls followed up an opening day goalless draw away at Charlton Athletic with three points at Hillsborough last weekend as they beat manager Darren Moore’s former team Doncaster Rovers 2-0.

One of the club’s new summer signings, Dennis Adeniran, got on the scoresheet in that victory, after Barry Bannan had opened the scoring just three minutes earlier.

With the recruitment that Darren Moore has done, Carlton Palmer is optimistic of the Owls’ promotion hopes this season, exclusively telling This is Futbol: “His recruitments have been fantastic, and you know I’m very optimistic that they can get promotion.

“If you’d of asked me that two weeks ago I would have said it’s going to be a tall order but looking at the squad and the players he’s brought in now, obviously they’ve got to be given time to gel and understand the way that Darren wants them to play but it’s a strong league.

“In the Championship and the league below it’s always very competitive but the quality of players that he’s brought in are very, very good and I expect them to do very, very well as I said, I expect them to be the front runners for automatic now.”
