Celtic fans have been reacting to comments made about one of their transfer targets, specifically Shamrock Rovers defender Liam Scales.

Speaking ahead of their Europa Conference League tie against Albanian side Tueta Durres, Rovers manager Stephen Bradley confirmed that Celtic were showing an interest in signing the 22-year-old this summer, but that they faced serious competition from a number of clubs in both England and Scotland:

Are you feeling more confident about Celtic's squad now?

Yes

“I fully expect Liam to be with us next week. But there is a lot of serious interest from the English Premier League and Scotland. That has been there as well as Celtic and others. There is a lot of interest. There have been bids put down.”

His comments were relayed on social media by @aboutceltic for fans to react to and it generated a number of responses, with some of them really excited to see them linked with the defender and hoping that they could make the deal a reality:

“Do you think this is likely?”

@marc_nairn

“Given Dermot’s ties with Shamrock Rovers I would say yes”

“A few Irish lads saying this boy is a player”
“Definitely worth buying… seen plenty of him. Could take few months to settle giving the size of Celtic so hopefully fans allow that. Good defender and very comfortable on the ball.”
“Only names Celtic and names the price… Bit of fishing going on here I think. Cynical people would think it’s the only way he can get this past his boardroom and try to drum up some extra revenue…”
“Hopefully get this one over the line. And give him a big contract”
“Really EPL. Is the guy known ? I’m surprised .”

It seems Celtic are in for Scales, though whether or not they’ll be able to fight off the apparent competition from other clubs will be a different matter.
