Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest news to emerge concerning Toon goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

This comes after Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie shared a post on his official Twitter page relaying news originally revealed by Toon manager Steve Bruce during his recent press conference ahead of the club’s Premier League clash against West Ham United.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

Bruce revealed that Woodman will start the 2021/22 season as Newcastle’s No 1 goalkeeper and will make his senior debut for the Toon against the Hammers, with both Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow out injured.

The Toon boss also added that Woodman “deserves his chance” to play for the club after playing in the Championship for two years.

This post from Downie then quickly grabbed the attention of a lot of Toon supporters, who were not shy in airing their thoughts on this update.

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say in response to this news about Woodman?

“Happy about this, Deserves it!”

@thisisleyo

“Brilliant news hope he takes his chance”

@KeithFenwick10

“Excited for him”

@Jayden97775695

“Yesssssss”

@KierenW6

“More than deserves his chance.”

@Daniel18981240

“Buzzing about this btw. #nufc”

@NotSoLocalHero

“Wow, hope he takes his chance and makes the most of it, deserves to be given some game time in the PL for sure”

@ioanstephens

“How it should be”

@nufcdan10

Looking at the replies to this post, it seems as though these Newcastle are quite happy to hear that Woodman will start against West Ham this weekend.

Given how the shot-stopper only conceded 41 goals in 48 Championship games during his loan spell at Swansea City last season, keeping 21 clean sheets in the process, it’s easy to see why these Toon fans are keen to see him play.

Are you excited to see Woodman play for Newcastle?

No

In our view, despite Bruce saying that he feels that Woodman deserves his chance to play, it sounds as though he doesn’t exactly have a choice considering how Dubravka and Darlow are both out injured.

Moving forward, everyone at the club will undoubtedly be hoping that Woodman can have a good debut for the team at the weekend and show just why these fans are so excited about him.
