West Bromwich Albion fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest news to emerge concerning Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

This comes after West Brom journalist Joe Masi shared a post on his Twitter page relaying news originally shared by Baggies manager Valerien Ismael during his recent press conference ahead of the club’s upcoming Championship match against Luton Town.

During the press conference, Ismael revealed that Johnstone will start the game against Luton and that he is in talks with the club over a new contract.

This post then quickly caught the attention of a lot of Baggies supporters, who were not shy in sharing their responses to Masi’s post.

So, what did these West Brom fans have to say in response to this news about Johnstone?

“Get in!”

@TheAdiePearson

“Huge for Albion. The transfer budget might not be as healthy for that striker now though”

@AshDavies21

“Massive news”

@jack58914528

“Yesssssssss”

@johnwba01

“Best news all week”

@ftbl_joey

“Love to see it”

@joshwbWBA

Looking at the replies to this post from Masi, it’s clear to see that not only are these West Brom fans excited to hear that Johnstone will play in the game against Luton, but is also in talks with the club over a potential new contract to keep him at The Hawthorns for the foreseeable future, which is understandable given the rumours that have persisted over the summer.

Are you happy with this news?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Taking into account how West Brom conceded two goals during their opening game of the season against AFC Bournemouth with David Button in goal, you can see why they are happy to hear that Johnstone will be back in net for this next game.

Given how only three players that started more than one Premier League game last season ended up earning higher overall season ratings than Johnstone according to WhoScored, it’s no wonder why these Baggies fans would love to see the Englishman put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

In our view, keeping Johnstone at the club will not only give the Baggies a great chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League next season, but also potentially keeping them in it should this campaign go well.
