Manchester United were definitely interested in Jack Grealish before they signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax, Aston Villa journalist Luke Hatfield has told This Is Futbol.

Grealish became the most expensive player in British football history when he joined Manchester City for £100m last week.

However, at one point, it looked like City’s rivals United were going to be Grealish’s destination, with reports in 2020 claiming that the Red Devils wanted to bring the former Villa captain to Old Trafford.

Who would you rather have?

Sancho

Sancho

And Hatfield has confirmed that was indeed the case, only for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to move for Van de Beek in the end.

“Manchester United were interested in Grealish before,” the Express & Star reporter said. “But I think they kind of moved on with the signing of Van de Beek when they did that one.

“Ultimately, it was very much that City were the only team willing to meet that kind of valuation.”

As for this summer, United look well covered in attack, so it is not a surprise that they did not revive their interest in Grealish.

Jadon Sancho recently arrived from Borussia Dortmund in a £73m deal to add to a forward line that already boasted the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
