Forza Italian Football editor Conor Clancy has revealed Kalidou Koulibaly is keen to leave Napoli and would be interested in joining Everton.

The central defender has been linked with Europe’s biggest clubs for a number of years and former Napoli and Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti even described Koulibaly as the best centre-back in the world two years ago.

During his time in Italy, the 30-year-old has made more than 200 Serie A appearances and also won 47 international caps for Senegal.

Koulibaly has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and, according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, his current employers have set a £43million price tag.

Shortly after being appointed as Ancelotti’s successor in June, Rafa Benitez asked Everton’s hierarchy to reunite him with Koulibaly having worked with the former Genk man during his time in charge of Napoli.

To kick off this quiz on Everton transfers, which player was the Toffees' club-record transfer fee paid on according to Transfermarkt?

While the Toffees were seemingly dealt a blow in their pursuit as Napoli chief Luciano Spalletti insisted Koulibaly is not for sale, Serie A expert Clancy has alleged a move to Everton could still be in the offing.

He told TIF: “I think he’s probably reached the point now where he might be more open to a move than he was before.

“Napoli were title contenders, but they’re not now. They’re a long way from that.”
